Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370533 AB The Project Inform Treatment Hotline provides callers with up-to-date HIV treatment and disease-related information, so that people with HIV infection, along with their medical provider, can make informed decisions regarding their health. The Project Inform Hotline was set up in 1987 with a home phone to answer questions about different AIDS treatments and related opportunistic diseases. Because of rising demand, national toll-free lines and local phone lines, were established. A program was set up to train volunteers to answer treatment related questions regarding HIV disease. Information provided by the Project Inform Hotline is in both oral and written form. Supplemental written information is usually mailed to the caller. Calls to the Project Inform Hotline have increased to over 50,000 annually. There is toll-free access to the Hotline from all 50 states and Puerto Rico. There are approximately 65 volunteers available to answer calls. Hotline hours have been expanded to six hours a day, six days a week. Hotline trainings occur every four months to maintain staffing on the hotline. As people with HIV infection become more involved in their treatment strategies, the demand for more and better information grows. Project Inform, its Hotline, and its Information Department, continues to work on providing free, unbiased and quality information to anyone who calls. Project Inform is a private non-profit organization; because of over 175 highly motivated volunteers the organization has been able to keep pace with the demand to produce, update and disseminate HIV/AIDS treatment information.
